This structure is used to indicate substitution or replacement, showing that one thing is done or given in place of another. It can also express that something is done in return for something else, indicating a balance or exchange.
　※Note: “～代わりに” is used to express both physical substitution (replacing one thing with another) and abstract exchange (doing one thing in return for something else).
